Gacked from [livejournal.com profile] chicklet73, the 50 Questions-meme:

1. Do you like blue cheese?
Yummy. Blue cheese...::licks lips::

2. Have you ever smoked a cigarette?
Yes.

3. Do you own a gun?
No! I do own two swords, though: an épée and a foil. But as far as guns are concerned, where I am, the only people who can lawfully carry them are the military and certain sections of the police. Anyone else is basically bad news.

4. What flavour do you add to your drink at Sonic?
Outside of my ken, sorry.

5. Do you get nervous before doctor appointments?
No. I see no reason to, really...they're only there to help.

6. What do you think of hot dogs?
Not much. They're an okay snack if there's nothing better to be had, but I'd rather have a triple-decker sandwich. Or a Cornish pasty!

7. Favourite Christmas Song?
Last Christmas.

8. What do you prefer to drink in the morning?
Coffee.

9. Can you do push ups?
I suppose so...I've never felt the need to try, though.

10. What's your favourite meal?
Oh. My. Word. I am enormously fond of seafood. So my favourite meal would likely include any or all of the following: lobster. Crab. Scallops. Shrimp. Prawns. Fish. No mussels, hate those.

11. What's your favourite piece of jewellery?
My stepmother's ring, for sentimental value really.

12. Favourite hobby?
Reading.

13. Do you work with people who idolise you?
Strange concept.

14. Do you have A.D.D?
No.

15. What's one trait that you dislike about yourself?
My tendency to procrastinate.

16. Middle name?
Martine.

17. Name 3 thoughts at this moment.
1. The list (see previous entry)
2. What's for dinner?
3. Have I paid all my bills for this month?

18. Name 3 things you bought yesterday:
1. Rice
2. Water chestnuts
3. Mangetout

20. Current worry right now?
Financial, owing to my job situation.

21. Current hate right now?
My job situation, i.e., not having any.

22. Favourite place to be?
In a geographical sense: London or New York. And in good company, in any kind of sense.

23. How did you bring in New Years?
At home with the cats, I think.

24. Where would you like to go?
Ever since I was a child, I've had this dream of visiting Iceland one day...Not sure if it's ever going to happen. Also, I hope to one day follow the Camino and go on the pilgrimage to Santiago. But I think I've got more of a realistic chance of making it across the Narrow Sea to the UK, or the pond to the States, than either of these two dream destinations.

25. Name three people who will complete this?
No.

26. Whose answer do you want to read the most?
I'm interested in any/all!

27. What colour shirt are you wearing?
I never wear shirts (too much of a bust). But I'm wearing a khaki cable-knit jumper right now...and yes, I do know it's July. Someone tell the weather gods.

28. Do you like sleeping on satin sheets?
I've never slept on satin sheets. I'm not sure I'd like it.

29. Can you whistle?
Yes, though not on my fingers.

30. Favourite colour(s)?
Orange, yellow and gold.

31. Would you be a pirate?
And carry on the family tradition? Certainly! (one of my ancestors in the 16th century actually made his fortune out of privateering)

32. What songs do you sing in the shower?
Golden oldies, that I heard at my mother's knee: Sinatra, Crosby, that sort of thing. Interspersed with a few Dutch and 80s hits.

33. Favourite girl's name?
Belle. I was never quite sure whether if I ever had a daughter, I would register her as that or Isabelle (actually, I wavered between Isabelle Iphigénie, or Belle Blancefloer, with a slight bias towards the latter), but I was adamant that for all intents and purposes, that would be her name.

34. Favourite boy's name?
Manasse. Which is why I've bestowed it on my cat, as by the time he came along, it was clear I was never going to have another use for it. I don't know why I like it so much; only that it appealed to me from the moment I first heard it in RE roundabout the time when I was 9 or 10.

35. What's in your pocket right now?
Nothing. Except for some lint, probably.

36. Last thing that made you laugh?
I honestly can't remember. Isn't that sad?

37. Best bed sheets as a child?
Best bed sheets? Sheets? My family's sheets were white, heavy cotton, with a little blue crown embroidered in the top righthand corner. This was to mark them as ours, as in those days (the 60s), they were taken away to be laundered every week, together with the table cloths and tea and bath towels. The laundryman would stop by every Monday evening and exchange them for the ones he'd taken away the week before, that we would get back freshly laundered, bleached, starched (!), ironed and neatly folded. Mr. Oosterom...I wonder what became of his business once his clients got their own washing machines?

38. Worst injury you've ever had?
Definitely the trouble I've had with my ankle.

39. Do you love where you live?
I do...well, 'love' might be too strong a word. but I'm certainly well-contented with where I live.

40. How many TVs do you have in your house?
One.

41. Who is your loudest friend?
I don't think I've got any loud friends...I do have a few that squee on occasion, but then, doesn't everyone?

42. How many dogs do you have?
None.

43. Does someone have a crush on you?
Now that would surprise me.

45. What is your favourite book?
This hasn't changed since the last time I answered this, in another meme some years ago. Brideshead Revisited, by Evelyn Waugh. Or Zen And The Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, by Robert Pirsig.

46. What is your favourite candy?
Chocolate. The purer, the better.

47. What is your favourite sports team?
I don't really have one - I'm not into sports much. Every two years though, I do feel the urge to support my national football team in either the European or World Championships. Their performance this summer though, was dismal - thank God I'd already picked Spain to win. And by football, I mean the beautiful game, aka soccer.

48. What song do you want played at your funeral?
I definitely want to hear (or want to be played) the 1st movement of Delalande's Deuxième Fantaisie, ou Caprice que le Roi demandoit souvent - this is how it goes. But as for a song, perhaps Pink Floyd, The Great Gig in the Sky.

49. What were you doing 12 AM last night?
Getting ready for bed.

50. What was the first thing you thought of when you woke up this morning?
The same it is every morning: "COFFEE!"
