My horoscope said I needed to get myself some nice new clothes this week, but unfortunately I haven't been able to find any wandering up and down the high street. I did spot a pair of purple Allstars that I'm going to get this spring, and I have a sneaking suspicion that orange and applegreen are going to be next season's black, but I didn't see anything that could persuade me to part with my money now.

I did bump into my nephew, though. He was with a girl and although I tried to sneak away unnoticed, I didn't succeed. He surprised me by catching me in a bear hug and telling me all about this movie they'd just seen the sneak preview of (it sounded like the kind of Hollywood dross that appeals to teenagers his age all over the world, like Dude, Where's My Car?), but failed to introduce the girl so I guess she's not important. God, they grow up so fast, don't they? My Mick, 15 years old -- seems like only yesterday I was twice his height; now he's half a head taller than me, and I swear there's some definite fuzz on his upper lip!

Time goes by so quickly...the other day, I happened to channel-hop across Milos Forman's 1984 film Amadeus (incidentally, one of my favourites) and I couldn't believe it had been 20 years since I first saw it. It turned my then boyfriend into a complete Mozart fan, and within a month he'd built up a sizeable collection of opera and symphony CDs, much to my satisfaction as it meant he stopped listening to Supertramp, which had been his favourite band until he saw the light and found Mozart. BTW, I'd found Mozart years before, but of course he'd never wanted to listen to anything I liked before.

Anyway, after watching the latter part of the film again, I came to two realisations:

1) whatever happened to Tom Hulce? After Amadeus I saw him in another film in which he played cartoonist on the run from people he'd pissed off somehow, and in yet another in which he was a binman (I think), but after that? Not a clue.
2) I really, really want to have and am going to purchase a DVD-player this year.

Of course, I would decide to switch to DVD the moment I've finally completed my Buffy the Vampire Slayer-video collection...But never mind. As soon as I have my DVD-player, I'm going to get all the recent films I love, like LotR, Gladiator, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and even Pirates of the Caribbean, and the older ones like Amadeus, and I'll never venture out of doors on a wet and windy Saturday again!
